STATE TAKING ACTION ON INVASIVE AQUA PESTS

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, in cooperation with seven Great Lakes states and two Canadian provinces, has announced the second annual Aquatic Invasive Species Landing Blitz, a regional campaign to outline the risks of introducing and spreading invasive pests. Partners throughout the Great Lakes region… including here in the North Country… will be educating the public at hundreds of water access sites now through July 5th about non-native aquatic plants and animals that can cause environmental and economic harm and harm to human health…. many of which can be transported from waterbody to waterbody on watercraft and equipment. The aim is to teach people how to inspect, clean, drain and treat watercraft and equipment.
