TRIBAL GRANTS RELEASED

The St. Regis Mohawk Tribe received a $2 million federal grant for continuing upgrades of its affordable housing stock less than two weeks ago. Now, the tribe will be getting another windfall. Yesterday, it was awarded nearly $200,000 in addition to the earlier money, to provide services for public housing. On Thursday, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development announced that the Akwesasne Housing Authority would receive $199,768 to hire or retain service coordinators who help public housing residents with employment training, financial literacy services, educational opportunities and health and wellness programs. The grant was part of $36 million in federal funds awarded nationwide.
