This could be the end of a longtime tradition in Malone… The Malone Winter Carnival parade will not take place this year. It was brought back after a long absence in 2012, but then it went away again in 2018. Last year it returned for what may very well have been it’s last hurrah. Frigid temperatures and lack of participation appear to have put the final nail in the coffin of the annual event that began about 60 years ago. Many reasons for its demise are being touted. One of them is the fact that the Parade of Lights has in many ways, become the winter parade. Anothe reason is the fact that the parade is always held when it is very cold. The Winter Carnival was held in February during winter break… and that meant many of the young people from the area were gone… enjoying warmer places… and that cut participation a lot too… along with the fact that many others are on vacation and out of the area when it is so cold. But while the Winter Carnival parade will not take place this year, plans are still in the works for the Winter Carnival Revue and the Miss Winter Carnival Pageant. The show is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 28, at the Malone Middle School.
