MALONE SCHOOL FUND BALANCE PLANS TO BE PUT BEFORE VOTERS

Malone Central School’s unappropriated fund balance now stands at more than double what New York state permits. School officials however, have come up with a plan to use the money and bring the balance into compliance. Currently, Malone Central Schools has more than $6.5 Million in unappropriated funds. Superintendent Jerry Griffin has come up with a plan that will be put before the voters next fall. If approved, it would mean some major work to update many of the district’s buildings… some of which have not seen any major work for a decade or longer. For instance, Davis Elementary and Franklin Academy each need new roofs and heating systems. There is a need for updated athletic facilities at the high school… and there are a lot of smaller items that wouldn’t normally fall under traditional maintenance. Griffin said he believes there would be something that would happen at every building.
