PLATTSBURGH FIRE LEAVES 17 HOMELESS

Flames broke out late Monday night at 32 Adirondack Lane in Plattsburgh, forcing as many as 17 people from their apartments. 9 people were sent to the hospital for treatment for smoke inhalation. Plattsburgh Fire crews battled heavy fire and smoke on the first floor as they tried to get to those trapped on the second floor. The building is left uninhabitable. Everyone made it out. There were no human casualties, but some pets… including dogs and cats… died in the inferno. While the investigation into the exact cause of the fire remains ongoing, so far, it is believed that it got started somehow in a first-floor apartment of the eight-unit two-story building at sometime around 10:30 p.m. Investigators say they believe it started in the kitchen area of a downstairs apartment, then quickly spread upstairs… generating thick black smoke in the hallways. Some of those who made it out had no choice but to escape through windows. Fortunately, they all made it.
