A stiff sentence for a Moira man who was caught with more than a pound of pot. 29 year old Ramon Aponte was sentenced in St. Lawrence County Court as a second-felony drug offender, to 2½ years in prison. He pled guilty back in March to felony second-degree criminal possession of marijuana, in connection to an incident that happened last July in the town of Gouverneur, when he was nabbed with more than 16 ounces of marijuana in his possession. It was the second time around for Aponte… he was previously convicted in September 2014 in Essex County on a felony charge of first-degree criminal possession of marijuana. That fact is what led the judge to hand down the heavy sentence this time around. In addition to his time in prison, Aponte was also sentenced to two years of post-release supervision.
