FIREWORKS BAN GOING INTO EFFECT IN LAKE PLACID

If you have plans to set off some fireworks in Lake Placid, you better pay close attention to this story. The Lake Placid village board has adopted a new local law that restricts who can set off fireworks and allows police and deputies to write tickets for those who disregard it. The new law limits fireworks only to events sponsored by the Olympic Regional Development Authority, the Regional Office of Sustainable Tourism, or the village itself… pretty much putting the brakes on anyone who tries to do a private fireworks display. The new law is in response to an increased number of applications recently, from private organizations for fireworks displays that are for the most part, for private benefit. Now, anyone who violates the local law could face prison time, or a fine of up to $1,000.
Sparklers and ground fireworks are still allowed under the new regulation.
