MALONE PICKED TO PARTICIPATE IN FEDERAL FOOD PROJECT

The town of Malone has been picked as one of 15 communities from across the country, to participate in a program by the Trump administration, which will provide federal help to launch a local food project, including a downtown farmers market. The federal initiative is aimed at promoting local food economies, and offer another source of fresh food, while at the same time, providing a new retail outlet for area farms. According to a statement issued by Mary Scharf, president of the Malone Chamber of Commerce, supporting local businesses and getting access to locally produced farm products is essential to the economic growth of the local community and health of local citizens. She also said the closing of Yando’s Market was a big blow to Malone, and the program hopefully will help fill the gap. The 2019 program selected 15 communities in 11 states out of 70 applicants. Malone was one of them.
