NORTH COUNTRY MAN ARRESTED ON FORGERY CHARGES

A North Country man is in some trouble after being arrested for forging a check and then resisting arrest. Gouverneur Police have charged 25 year old Richard LaPlant with petit larceny, second-degree possession of a forged instrument and resisting arrest after he was found to be in possession of a stolen check for $200 which had the victim’s forged signature on the back. Police say LaPlant deposited the check at the Gouverneur Savings and Loan. When officers showed up at an apartment on Route 58, they say he resisted arrest by hiding in the bedroom and refusing to come out. LaPlant was arraigned on the charges, and then sent to the St. Lawrence County jail, where he remains held without bail.
