Higher Age To Purchase Tobacco Products Being Proposed

There’s the possibility you’ll have to be older to purchase tobacco in New York. Karen Johnson has details.

You may soon have to be 21-years-old or older to buy tobacco products. In addition to raising the legal age, the proposal by Governor Andrew Cuomo would ban sale of tobacco and e-cigarette products in pharmacies, and the sale of certain flavored e-cigarette liquids. Governor Cuomo says we have made great strides to stamp out teen smoking, but new products threaten to undo this progress to the detriment of millions of Americans. In New York, we refuse to stand idly by while unscrupulous businesses target our young people and put their very futures at risk. The bill will be included in Cuomo’s 2019 executive budget.
