Are Fox Sightings In Massena A Cause For Concern?

Fox sightings around Massena is a cause for some concern, Karen Johnson has details.

Following several complaints of fox sightings in the village, the Board of Trustees recently had animal control professionals present information how residents should respond when spotting the animals. Robert Sommerfield from Sommerfield Wildlife Control and DEC Officer Troy Basford tell North Country NOW the foxes are likely not dangerous to humans and are unlikely to carry diseases such as rabies. Sommerfield says they’re feeding their young. All they’re doing is grabbing a squirrel and running back.” “I don’t feel there is any threat to people. He says rabies cases, while serious, are locally rare. Both animal officials are recommending that residents not leave food and garbage in the open to prevent foxes from hanging around.
