Tribal cop wins seat on Salmon River school board

A decent turnout for Tuesday’s special election for a seat on the Salmon River Central school board. Tribal police officer Peter Burns defeated Christina Mayville 293 to 175. Burns will take over for Peter Ghostlaw, who recently resigned because he moved out of the district. Burns had the backing of the St. Regis Mohawk tribe. He will be sworn in during a school board meeting tonight on the district’s main campus.
